Schindler's List

Schindler's List is a 1993 American epic historical period drama film, directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg and scripted by Steven Zaillian. It is based on the novel Schindler's Ark by Thomas Keneally, an Australian novelist. The film is based on the life of Oskar Schindler, an ethnic German businessman who saved the lives of more than a thousand mostly Polish-Jewish refugees during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories. It stars Liam Neeson as Schindler, Ralph Fiennes asSchutzstaffel (SS) officer Amon Goeth, and Ben Kingsley as Schindler's Jewish accountant Itzhak Stern.
The moral/religious issue: All life is precious
All life is precious is a moral which I think is presented in a realistic way in this film. The film is about Schindler who saved 1100 Jews by buying them from the Nazi's. The Nazi's do not care about the Jews and they blame them for all the mistakes in the world. Schindler believes it is not just to kill people. I think this is also a religious issue, because the crimes commited in this film are all against one religious group: Jews.
Characters
Oskar Schindler: Oskar Schindler is a businessman who lives in the second World War. He wants to make a lot of money and be powerful, in order to get this he needs workers to work in his factory, this is when he finds out that the Jews are the cheapest . He sees the torture that the Jews have to live with and decides that he is a good person who wants to help the Jews. He is portrayed as a person who cares about others even though you do not notice that in the beginning. He is a kind man who will not tolerate that his workers get hurt and put under pressure.
Amon Goeth: Amon Goeth is an SS officer who believes that all the Jews should die. He is cruel man who likes to torture and kill Jews. He does not like Oskar Schindler because he does not trust the man. He is willing to sacrifice himself if he can kill even more Jews with that sacrifice. He strongly believes the Jews are responsable for all the problems.
Itzhak Stern: A Jewsish accountant who gets to work for Schindler and is ever so grateful. When the Jews get deported to the camps and Schindler makes a list he even says that he is to old and that Schindler should save another Jew's life instead of his. A man with respect for Schindler and grateful for people who help him. He is willing to sacrife himself to save someone else.
How is the issue dealt with?
The issue has to do with the main premise of the film. The film evolves around saving the Jews. The film begins with an introduction of Oskar Schindler and that he needs a factory to make some money. He becomes friends with the Germans in order to get cheap workers and a factory to produce enamelware. He uses the Jews as workers because they are cheap, but he treats them well and they do not have to go to concentration camps because of Schindler. The German SS officer Amon Goeth arrives in Krakow and has to build a concentration camp, after this camp is build he empties the ghetto where the Jews live. Schindler sees this happen and he sees how cruel the Germans are against the Jews. He decides that he should save as many Jews as possible from this madness. He does this buy buying the Jews to work in his new ammunition factory, which produces ammunition that does not work, so he can save 1100 Jews.
Different ways in which the issue could have been shown
The film is shown from the perspective of Oskar Schindler. The film could have been shown from other perspectives, I will write a few examples.
Why I think the producers/producer chose this issue.
The film is based on the novel Schindler's Ark, this is why the film is seen from Schindler's perspective. This is easier to make for a producer because the novel tells the story and producer just has to make a film about it. If the producer decided to take the perspective of a Jew he would have needed to make a story himself. Now that is based on a real life story the film is more interesting to watch, because you know Schindler actually existed. This is issue is chosen really well, because this actually happened and Jews were killed like animals instead of human beings.

- The film could have been shown from a Jew who worked for Schindler and was save during the war.
- Another perspective could have been Amon Goeth, you could see how a German SS officer would have seen and felt the situation.
- The last possible perspective I think would be a mix of all the perspectives mentioned above. This would make the film more in depth by making you experience the events from all the different people.
